The International Flight Exercise Thracian Star 2019 Has Begun
SOFIA, Bulgaria (BulgarianMilitary.com) – The International Flight Exercise Thracian Star 2019 started on 8 May. Until 17 May, military personnel from the Bulgarian Air Force, Greece, Romania and Italy will exercise joint tasks in the range of preparations led by the troops of the Air Force, learned BugarianMilitary.com.
The main goals of the training are increasing the level of interoperability for participation in operations under the auspices of NATO, enhancing the theoretical, flying, tactical and special training of personnel as well as improving the procedures for working in an international environment.
Participants in Thracian Star 2019 on the Bulgarian side are MiG-29 fighter aircrafts from Graf Ignatievo Air Base, L-39ZA from the military air training base Georgi Benkovski, AS-532AL Cougar and Mi-24 helicopters from Krumovo Air Base as well as formations of the Air Force anti-aircraft missile troops. Air Force crews from: Greece – with F-16 Block 50, Romania – with MiG-21 LANCER and F-16 MLU, and Italy – with Eurofighter Typhoon, will participate in the joint flights.
Head of the joint exercise on the Bulgarian side is Brigadier General Petyo Mirchev, Deputy Air Force Commander.
On the first day of Thracian Star 2019 crews of MiG-29 fighter aircrafts from Graf Ignatievo Air Base took part in the joint flights.
Thracian Star is an annual international flight exercise that gives the participants the opportunity to acquire skills and improve their experience of coordination and interaction when performing the tasks.
