Turkey Is Likely To Become a Russia Partner in an S-500 Air Defence Project

ISTANBUL, Turkey (BulgarianMilitary.com) – The dynamics in the deterioration of the US-Turkey relations over the past few months, mainly related because of the fact that Turkey buys the Russian S-400 systems, may cause Russia to invite Turkey as a partner in the development of the new S-500 air defence system, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.

Sergey Chemezov, CEO of Rostec Corporation, told the Turkish news media Anadolu Agency that “Our countries have the necessary competence for development of the technological cooperation in the military field. For this reason, we would welcome the desire of the Turkish side to become our partner in the S-500 project”.

Chemezov also added that the Russian Federation was ready to introduce Turkey into the project for creation of a promising S-500 Prometheus air defence system, which was in the last stage of its development and, according to sources, was soon to do its entering into the Russian army. Chemezov also said that the Russian Federation was considering the possibility of producing Russian weapons in Turkey. One of these promising projects is the joint production of a new military helicopter between the two sides.

According to Chemezov, today the Turkish state has been subjected to unprecedented pressure by the United States because of the decision to buy the Russian S-400 systems.

“The fact that Turkey does not yield to pressure by its Alliance partners shows the independence of the foreign policy of the Turkish government and the president”, he said, adding “If Ankara shows interest in buying a Russian Su-57E jet fighter, the Russian Federation is ready for cooperation. Turkey is an attractive market for this fighter”.

We recall that in recent weeks Turkey has repeatedly made clear that there will be no concessions on the purchase of the Russian S-400 systems, that this topic of conversation is over and if the US does not intend to sell to Turkey the ordered quantities of the F-35 fighter, the Turkish side is considering the acquisition of other fifth-generation aircrafts – Su-57E and the Chinese J-20.
