Turkey Is Taking Quick Steps to Develop Its Own Air Defence Systems
ISTANBUL, Turkey (BulgarianMilitary.com) – “Turkey is taking quick steps to develop its own air defence systems”, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in the speech to the defence industry in Istanbul, learned BullgarianMilitary.com
The International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF) is currently held in the Turkish city.
Erdogan also said that the F-35 fighter jet project was doomed to failure without Turkey and added that Ankara was unfairly treated in connection with this project.
BulgarianMilitary.com recalls that Vice Admiral Mat Winter, the program executive officer for the F-35 Lightning II Joint Program Office, made a similar statement. “If Turkey is ejected from the F-35 program, it would deal an immediate blow to the production rate for new planes and place fresh stress on an already strained supply chain” he said before weeks ago.
The tension between Turkey and the United States began as Turkey decided to buy the Russian S-400 air defence systems, which led the US to suspend the deal for the US 5th generation F-35 delivery.
At the same time, Tamer Korkmaz, a journalist of the pro-government Turkish media Yeni Safak, writes that the US is trying to get Turkey to withdraw from its S-400 agreement with Russia through various threats and blackmail. According to him, these attempts are being made by influential agents “on a special mission” in Turkey.
“If Ankara surrenders to the threats, blackmail or suggestions of the US state and its partners in the country and goes back regarding the S-400, it will be a terrible mistake. Turkey cannot and must not surrender to any pressure, threats or blackmail on the way to protecting its right to sovereignty and its independence against the US state”, says more the material of the Turkish journalist.
