The Russian-Indian BrahMos Missiles to be Integrated on India’s Foreign Fighter Aircraft
BANGALORE, India (BulgarianMilitary.com) – Today, in an interview with the Russian state news agency TASS, the Director General of the Russian-Indian venture BrahMos Aerospace, revealed company’s long-term plans for BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, manufactured by the joint venture, to begin installing on India’s foreign fighter jets, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.
According to the CEO, the company has the capability to integrate the supersonic cruise missiles with any kind of aircraft and thus, in the future, to meet the Indian Air Force’ requirement. Currently, the BrahMos missile can be integrated with only one type of planes of India’s Air Force, which is the twinjet multirole fighter aircraft Sukhoi-30MKI.
On the sidelines of the international Aero India show 2019, Mishra noted that currently the Russian-Indian venture was working to develop a lighter version of the missile that to be installed on light fighter jets. As possible platforms are considered the Russian MiG-29 and Indian Tejas fighter.

It was also pointed and the progress that the company made toward research into a hypersonic missile. “So BrahMos Aerospace, DRDO and NPO Mashinostroenia already we all three are working to release the hypersonic missile. And our users have conveyed that there will be a requirement for such kind of system and we are working. We are working in the academic institutions and in the research laboratories and we hope it will take some time but we will be there” BrahMos chief explained furter.
At the moment, the missile’s flight parameters, range and accuracy are being improved by the company.
Meanwhile, in Abu Dhabi, India, Alexander Maksichev, the Joint Managing Director of the BrahMos Aerospace company informed the Russian media that BrahMos missiles would be provided for the two frigates that were being built for India at the Kaliningrad-based Yantar shipyards , under the Project 11356M,
Russia’s managing co-director specified that two BrahMos sets with vertical launchers for eight missiles, as well as their related equipment would be provided for the two project 11356M frigates in 2020.
Maksichev said the launchers were manufactured in India, for which the BrahMos Aerospace had the needed license.
The BrahMos missiles installed on all of India’s frigates and destroyers are to become armament of the all four Project 11356 frigates for the Indian Navy. Two of them are to be built at Russia’s shipbuilding company Yantar, and the other two – at the Indian Government owned ship building company Goa Shipyard.
