FORT WAYNE, Indiana, the United States (BulgarianMilitary.com) – On 14th February 2019 Raytheon announced its newly signed $406 million Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract awarded by the U.S. Army for ARC-231A radio systems, learned BulgarianMilitary.com

The ARC-231A is software-defined, so it allows rapid upgrades without the need of removing the radio from its platform. The latest variant of the system has recently gained NSA Type 1 certification and provides secure, classified communications on the battlefield.

Barbara Borgonovi, VP of Raytheon Integrated Communication Systems, explained, “These radios are the backbone of rotary-wing communications. The ARC-231A enables U.S. forces to maintain the edge in secure communications, whether they’re flying in contested or congested environments.”

Various platforms of the U.S. Army, including UH-72 Lakota utility helicopter, the UH-60 Black Hawk, and the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter, will be equipped with these types of radios.

The ARC-231 Skyfire is a software-definable radio for military purposes. It provides two-way, multi-mode voice and data communications over a 30 Hz to 512 MHz frequency range and covers both line-of-sight Ultra High Frequency (UHF) and Very High Frequency (VHF) bands with AM, FM and SATCOM capabilities, including Integrated Waveform (IW). The ARC-231 radio also features embedded anti-jam waveforms, including Havequick and SINCGARS, and other data link and secure communications features, providing battlefield interoperability. The radios use the MIL-STD-1553 data bus.

The manufactured by Raytheon ARC-231s installed in helicopters and some fixed-wing aircraft for the needs of all U.S. military services. Remote controls, transmit power amplifiers, SATCOM preamplifiers, as well as ground support equipment are among the available accessories.
