The First Airbus A330 MRTT Was Delivered to the Air Force of the Republic of Korea

BUSAN, the Republic of Korea ( – The global leader in aeronautics, space and related services, Airbus, announced on 30th January 2019 (Wednesday) that the first aerial refuelling A330 MRTT (Multi Role Tanker Transport) was delivered to the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF), learned

The Executive Vice President of Airbus, Fernando Alonso, commented, “The A330 MRTT has clearly established itself as the world’s premier tanker and strategic transport aircraft, and has been widely praised by the current operators. It will be a critical asset of the ROKAF and leading air forces worldwide for many decades.”

With that move South Korea becomes the 7th member of the global family of A330 MRTT operators and one of the twelve nations that have placed orders for approximately 60 aircraft by now, of which 33 have been delivered by the end of 2018.

As of the moment, some of the customers that have ordered the A330 MRTT are the Royal Australian Air Force, Royal Air Force, Royal Saudi Air Force, French Air Force, United Arab Emirates Air Force, Republic of Singapore Air Force.

The Airbus A330 MRTT is based on the civilian Airbus A330. A variant of the A330 tanker, the EADS/Northrop Grumman KC-45, was offered to the U.S. Air Force.

The A330 MRTT of the Air Force of the Republic of Korea will be powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines, equipped with the Airbus Refuelling Boom System. It can be reconfigured depending on the needs so that to carry to transport passengers and freight or for medical evacuation purposes.

The new-generation A330 tanker aircraft extends the endurance and range of the Air Force of South Korea and provides a strategic transport capability for passengers and freight.
