Global Hawk Ground Control Stations of the US Air Force to Be Supported by Raytheon
DULLES, Virginia (BulgarianMilitary.com) – Raytheon Company revealed on 23rd January 2019 that the company will support the Global Hawk ground control stations of the U.S. Air Force all over the world. Raytheon Intelligence, Information and Services will execute the relevant agreed works, which include maintenance and modernization of both hardware and software so that the defence against cyber threats to be improved, as part of a $65 million subcontract from the aircraft manufacturer, Northrop Grumman.

Todd Probert, VP of Mission Support and Modernization at Raytheon Intelligence, Information and Services, commented, “Raytheon will help these unmanned aircraft meet tomorrow’s threats. We have been improving the Global Hawk fleet’s capabilities for 20 years by modernizing their ground and sensor systems and will now ensure their resiliency in the face of cyber threats.”
The RQ-4 Global Hawk of Northrop Grumman is an unmanned surveillance aircraft. It was initially designed by Ryan Aeronautical, which is now part of Northrop Grumman, and known as Tier II+ while being developed.

Through high-resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and long-range electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensors with long loiter times over target areas, the RQ-4 provides a broad overview and systematic surveillance using. It is operated by the U.S. Air Force (USAF) and used as a High-Altitude Long Endurance platform. It can survey as much as 100,000 km2 of terrain a day, which is an area the size of South Korea or Iceland. According to the USAF, the excellent surveillance capabilities of the aircraft allow more precise weapons targeting and better protection of friendly forces.
