Because of tension on the north and south borders, Israel has deployed an Iron Dome rocket interceptor system
JERUSALEM, Israel (BulgarianMilitary.com) – The Israeli air force (IAF) has deployed an Iron Dome rocket interceptor system in central Israel. This as the tension on the country’s north and south borders has increased, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.
The special deployment, is on top of the systems that are deployed regularly in different sites.
The Iron Dome Weapon System, developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, detects, assess and intercepts incoming rockets, artillery shells and mortars.
Raytheon has teamed with Rafael on the production of Iron Dome’s Tamir interceptor missiles, which kill incoming threats launched from ranges of 4-70 km.

Due to tension with #Hamas, the defense establishment is preparing for the possibility of launches from #Syria after public threats. pic.twitter.com/mTLfOt6GJS— Eli Dror (@edrormba) 24 януари 2019 г.
It’s the world’s most used missile defense system, intercepting more than 2000 targets with a greater than 90 percent success rate since being fielded in 2011.
The system is effective day or night and in all weather conditions, including low clouds, rain, dust storms and fog. It features a first-of-its-kind multi-mission launcher, which is designed to fire a variety of interceptor missiles, depending on the threat.
A number of Iron Dome batteries are deployed around Israel and when tension increases in one border more batteries are transferred to that area.
