Saab Announced a Land-Based Radars Support Contract
STOCKHOLM, Sweden (BulgarianMilitary.com) – In the end of last week, on 18th January 2019, Saab announced that the company has signed a contract with the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom for support and services, which will be provided for land-based Giraffe AMB radar systems, learned BulgarianMilitary.com
It has been agreed the contract to cover the period from 2019 to 2024. Under this newly signed agreement Saab will supply spares, repairs, maintenance and Field Service Representative (FSR) services, including design assurance and configuration management. The works will be executed both on site at Baker Barracks in Thorney Island, UK and at the facilities of the company in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Our support offer has in-built flexibility to enable high readiness and availability as well as long-term sustainability. We are proud to assist the British Army with further enhancing their air situational awareness.”
The fleet of land-based multi-function Giraffe AMB radars of the United Kingdom is the largest in the world and the relevant radars have been in operation with the UK armed forces since 2007. The UK Giraffe AMB radars have contributed both to force protection through the detection of incoming rockets, artillery shells and mortars and to air situational awareness and air defence on operations and at public events. They meet the latest build standard with their features such as Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) Mode 5 and integration with the Link 16 data network. As part of the future Sky Sabre system, the radars will support the Land Environment Air Picture Provision (LEAPP).
