$50,000 Scholarship for STEM Students Announced by Lockheed Martin

WASHINGTON, D.C., the USA (BulgarianMilitary.com) – Yesterday (17th January 2019) Lockheed Martin came out with the news that the company will provide a $50,000 scholarship for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) students in partnership with the Surface Navy Association (SNA), learned BulgarianMilitary.com

The scholarship is planned to be $10,000 annually for the next five years and the intention is four students across the nation to be awarded $2,500 each year. The recipients of the 2019 scholarship will be announced this spring.

The VP and GM ‘Integrated Warfare Systems and Sensors’ at Lockheed Martin, Paul Lemmo, clarified, “Educating and engaging the future of the STEM workforce is of the greatest importance to Lockheed Martin. In order for our nation and its allies to remain globally competitive, we must continue to invest in our future and develop a workforce that has the skills necessary to compete in today’s high-tech economy.”

In that connection, as one of the priorities of Lockheed Martin for charitable giving, the company donates about $12 million each year to STEM education, engages with students through scholarships, mentorship programs, internships, as well as through extracurricular competitions and events.

(retired) Lee Gunn, SNA Scholarship Chairman, commented, “It’s been a pleasure working with our partners at Lockheed Martin to provide this scholarship for the next generation of STEM professionals. This scholarship program was brought to life by our shared vision, and our shared dedication to shaping the future of security and defence.”

In addition, Lockheed Martin employees volunteer approximately 115,000 hours each yare to STEM organizations. It shall be also mentioned that within the past five years Lockheed Martin has donated over $60 million for the purposes of STEM education.
