Indra and Gaerum Start Simulated Flight Tests of the Targus OPV
MADRID, Spain (BulgarianMilitary.com) – One of the leading global technology and consulting companies, Indra, announced on 11th January 2019 that the company and its partner Gaerum have reached an important moment in the development of the Targus Optionally Piloted Vehicle (OPV), and namely the start of simulated flight tests so that to validate the design of the aircraft’s critical systems, learned BulgarianMilitary.com
The Targus aircraft weighs 1.2 tons and has a wingspan of 11 meters.
The advanced simulation methodology used by Indra is known as Software-In-the-Loop/ Hardware-In-the-Loop. It makes aircraft systems “think” that they are in the air.
The behaviour of the electronic systems is tested by engineers in an environment, which is set up to be 100% realistic. This can be achieved, because the data, which feed these components, have been collected in real flights and in this way situations that would be faced in a real environment can be perfectly replicated.
Costs and risks associated with development and experimentation are reduced by validating design decisions before moving on to the actual flight test phase.
As soon as the correlation between the behaviour of the system in the simulator and in the air is confirmed through a flight test, all simulation hours will be regarded as real flight hours.
The use of the simulation tool will significantly shorten the time to market and reduce the final price of the product as reported.
Indra is one of the leading global technology and consulting companies. It has local presence in 46 countries and business operations in over 140 countries. The company provides solutions in Transport and Defence markets and is a leading firm in Digital Transformation Consultancy and Information Technologies in Spain and Latin America through its affiliate Minsait.
Gaerum Engineering is part of Grupo Aerum, a Spanish company specialized in the integration of systems in aerial platforms.
