China Successfully Completes Trials of the Russian S-400s

MOSCOW, the Russian Federation (BulgarianMilitary.com) – Today (10th January), a military-diplomatic source, quoted by the Russian news agency TASS, reported that China had conducted a second successful test of firing the S-400 Triumf bought from Russia, and thus completed the trials of the air defence missile system, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.

Previously, the Hong-Kong based South China Morning Post, referring to Russian media reports, stated that the first test had been carried out in early December last year by China’s People’s Liberation Army Rocket Force, when  the S-400 Triumf successfully hit a “simulated ballistic target” almost 250 kilometre away and was flying at the supersonic speed of 3 km/s.

According to the source of TASS, the second S-400 test was held in December 2018 at a Chinese firing ground and the 48N6E missile fired by the launcher of the system shot down a target simulating an aircraft, moving at a speed of over 600 meters per second. He also adds that the simulated target was hit at a maximum range of about 250 km. With the conducting of the second successful test, China has completed the S-400 trial program and at the moment, no other firing tests are being planned, the source says further.

In conclusion, he stated that the Chinese Defence Ministry highly evaluated the combat effectiveness of Russia’s air defence missile system S-400 Triumf after conducting the two trials, and quoted a representative of China’s top brass saying: “We really saw that the S-400 system by its capabilities today is unparalleled in the world in its armament class.”

China is the first buyer of Russia’s long-and medium-range surface-to-air missile system S-400 Triumf. Under the terms of the contract signed between them, Russia is responsible for the delivery of two regiment sets of S-400 air defense missile systems to China.

In July 2018, TASS reported that it had been signed a certificate of acceptance of the first S-400 regiment set, the delivery of which had been completed in May.
