The US Space and Naval Warfare Systems Centre Will Receive Hughes 9211 BGAN Terminals

Germantown, Maryland, the USA ( — The global leader in broadband satellite networks and services, Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES), announced on Monday (7th January 2019) that U.S. Space and Naval Warfare Systems Centre (SSC) Atlantic had ordered over 200 of the Hughes 9211 Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) satellite terminals, learned

The order was placed through Hughes partner Marshall Communications Corporation and thanks to its hardened, compact, and sleek design will equip SSC Atlantic with the world’s smallest and lightest High Data Rate (HDR) terminal, enabling mission-critical military communications that are mobile and easy to deploy.

Rick Lober, vice president and general manager of defence and intelligence systems at Hughes, underlined, “For mobile military communications, portability is as essential as reliable connectivity. Our Hughes 9211 BGAN comes in a compact, tablet-sized package, providing warfighters a high-speed and reliable communications link in an easy-to-use, low-SWaP system that works in the most demanding situations. We look forward to working with Marshall Communications Corporation and SSC Atlantic to supply this world-class terminal for their global operations.”

The Hughes 9211 BGAN High Data Rate terminal, which is tablet-sized, meets the military need for portable, easy-to-deploy satellite communications. It provides high-speed satellite connectivity in a light-weight and ruggedized device, which can be quickly and easily deployed in the harshest environments. The terminal delivers high-throughput speeds over 650 kbps with built-in, multi-user Wi-Fi access and in this way it can support multiple team members at the same time and overcome Line-of-Sight (LoS) limitations. The device is also equipped with a built-in compass and audio tone for signal acquisition.

The Hughes 9211 BGAN terminal features low power consumption, which means that it is budget-friendly.

As of the moment, Hughes has supplied such terminals for needs of military, media correspondence, public safety, as well as for mobile health care needs.
