The UK HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales Will Be Supported by BAE Systems

Through an addition to the NCSISS contract, BAE Systems will provide complex system engineering of world class so that to ensure both aircraft carriers are kept ready for operations.

DE&S Head of Maritime Combat Systems Jo Osburn clarified, “Extending the NCSISS arrangement to include the Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers has provided a facility to test and assure new capabilities ahead of instillation into the platform. BAE Systems’ role in supporting the Combat System Enterprise through NCSISS will enable agile Operational Support to this new Class of Warship for her current equipment as well as de-risking the addition of the new systems and equipment planned in the near to medium term.”
The Queen Elizabeth Class mission systems involve sixty-two individual sub-systems. They all are vital for the purposes of delivery of aircraft carrier operations and allow crews to assess and respond to threats, manage aircraft movements, and plan joint, air and maritime operations.

Under the new agreement, referred to as NCSISS phase 2.2, the mission systems of both ships mentioned above will be supported by engineers of BAE Systems based at the Maritime Integration Support Centre (MISC) of the company in Portsmouth.
The Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carrier programme has been supported by the MISC since 2009. The centre also played a vital role in the preparation of HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH for her first of class flight trials.
The two Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers of the Royal Navy will make it one of the “best navies in the world” according to HMS Prince of Wales captain, quoted by Portsmouth News: The News.
