Successful First Flight Performed with the Second GlobalEye AEW&C Aircraft
STOCKHOLM, Sweden (BulgarianMilitary.com) – On 3rd January 2019, the Swedish defence technology company Saab announced in a press release that that the company has completed on the same day a successful first flight with the second GlobalEye Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) aircraft, learned BulgarianMilitary.com
The second GlobalEye aircraft took off for the first time at 11.00 am on Friday last week from the airfield of the company in Linköping, southern Sweden. The duration of that first flight, during which it was collected flight-test data, was 2 hours 54 minutes.
Anders Carp, Head of Saab’s business area Surveillance, commented, “Today’s successful first flight is another major step for GlobalEye. We received the initial contract in late 2015, completed the maiden flight with the first aircraft in March 2018 and now we have the second aircraft in the air just over nine months later. This is the kind of efficiency that signifies Saab.”

The GlobalEye AEW&C aircraft is based on a modified Bombardier Global 6000 aircraft with a suite of advanced sensors including the Erieye ER airborne radar. It provides air, maritime and ground surveillance in a single solution and features extended detection range, endurance and the ability to perform multiple roles, including tasks such as military operations, search and rescue and border surveillance. Therefore it is a solution that maximizes operational performance while at the same time offering outstanding crew comfort.
The GlobalEye aircraft made its first flight last year on 14th March. The launch customer for GlobalEye AEW&C aircraft is the United Arab Emirates. The solution there is known as the Swing Role Surveillance System (SRSS).
