Leonardo’s Falco EVO RPAS Is Part of the Surveillance Research Programme of Frontex

ROME, Italy (BulgarianMilitary.com) – The Remotely-Piloted Air System (RPAS) of L eonardo, Falco EVO, in its maritime patrol version, has been deployed from Lampedusa airport (Lampedusa Island, Italy) as part of the surveillance research programme of Frontex. The goal is to be tested its ability to monitor the external borders of the European Union, learned BulgarianMilitary.com

Frontex is assessing the surveillance capability of medium-altitude, long-endurance RPAS, including the relevant endurance and cost efficiency. The European agency selected the Italian company Leonardo through a service contract tender for drone operations for maritime surveillance across the Italian and Maltese civil airspace. The present agreement provides for 300 flight hours and it could be further extended into a longer-term agreement.
