Rockwell Collins Announced a Five-Year U.S. Army Support Contract
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa, the USA (BulgarianMilitary.com) – Rockwell Collins announced last week the receipt of a five-year contract with the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM) Logistics Centre (ALC) to support operational readiness of CH-47F avionics, learned BulgarianMilitary.com
Under the contract Rockwell Collins will provide current component upgrades and additional component repair capabilities for the Common Avionics Architecture Systems (CAAS) on the Army’s CH-47F Chinook helicopter fleet.
The principal program manager, Rotary Wing Services for Rockwell Collins, Rod Hall commented, “With this contract, we are able to upgrade the first generation of CAAS hardware at substantial cost savings to the Army. Additionally, by including repair capabilities for the latest configuration of CAAS hardware, we’re able to expand the breadth of support provided which increases the functionality to end users.”
CAAS, which is adopted by the U.S. Army as the standard for CH-47F cockpit avionics, provides flight crews with battle-proven situational awareness during missions. The system features multiple communications, navigation and mission subsystems through its flexible Flight2™ open systems architecture design. As of the moment, it is fielded on over 500 aircraft all over the world.
The Boeing CH-47 Chinook is an American twin-engined, tandem rotor, heavy-lift helicopter developed by American rotorcraft company Vertol and manufactured by Boeing Vertol (later known as Boeing Rotorcraft Systems and now known as Vertical Lift division of Boeing Defense, Space & Security). Its name, Chinook, comes from the Native American Chinook people of modern-day Washington state. In 2001, the first CH-47F variant – an upgraded CH-47D, made its maiden flight.
