Hence, for the purposes of identifying national strategies and implications of AI for governments and industry, Thales joined forces with the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) that has developed an independent report on AI and its potential implications on national security and national security policy.

Alan Pellegrini, CEO of Thales USA, commented, “We want to be part of a collective force for good and create ethical applications of AI to help address the world’s most profound challenges. The report “Artificial Intelligence and National Security: The Importance of the AI Ecosystem”, authored and recently published by CSIS, analyses the policy frameworks, including ethical AI usage, investment strategy, adoption challenges, operationalization of AI, as well as international approaches of AI in national security.

Andrew Hunter, CSIS senior fellow and project director for the report, shared, “Enthusiasm in both the public and private sectors has obscured the importance of building the robust supporting capabilities for AI that are crucial to successful AI adoption. The AI ecosystem includes a skilled workforce and knowledgeable management; the digital capability for capturing, handling, and exploiting data; the technical foundation of trust, security, and reliability; and the investment environment and policy framework needed for AI to flourish.”
