Russian Paratroopers Participate in CSTO Interaction 2018 Exercise in Kyrgyzstan
MOSCOW, the Russian Federation, (BulgarianMilitary.com) – Today, the Russian Federation Ministry of Defence published an announcement about the beginning of the Interaction 2018 exercises, started by Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and scheduled to take place in Kyrgyzstan for the period from 10th to 13th October, with the participation of a Russian airborne detachment, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.
On its side, Russia has sent special forces paratroopers from the Airborne Division, stationed in Ivanovo, who were airlifted to Kyrgyzstan by Russian Aerospace Forces’ military transport aircraft.
The main phase of the drill will be held at the Edelweiss training ground in Kyrgyzstan. The Interaction 2018 CSTO exercises are conducted within the framework of the strategic maneuvers of another CSTO training – the Combat BrotherHood 2018. As part of these strategic exercises, in the CSTO command post exercise -Interaction 2018, are involved about 2000 servicemen of the CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Force (CRRF) from six countries, which are Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.
Central Military District of Russia is represented in Interaction 2018 CSTO exercises by more than 600 servicemen of a separate motorized rifle brigade of the Central Military District, in Tuva. There will be involved also near 140 weapons and units of military equipment, including Iskander-M tactical ballistic missile system, 30 airplanes and helicopters of short-range as well as army aviation, transported from Siberia and the Urals to Kyrgyzstan.
During the exercise, at Edelweiss training ground in Kyrgyzstan, the Russian detachment and CSTO CRRF troops are supposed to perform joint operations such as localization of an armed conflict in Central Asia, as well as to stop the intrusion of illegal armed groups and to defeat them. In particular, they will carry out raid-search operations in order to detect, block and defeat a conditional enemy and then to restore the situation on the state border of the conditional country. In order to perform successfully their tasks, at their disposal they will have the support of operational-tactical and army aviation.
Speaking on the background of the current exercise, Commander of the Central Military District General Lieutenant Alexander Lapin, who is also responsible for the supervision of the management of the grouping of troops in the drill, said that a district control center was deployed at the Edelweiss training ground, which is the basis of the Interaction 2018. He also added: “For the first time since the signing of the Plan for the use of a joint group of troops of the armed forces of Russia and Kyrgyzstan in 2017 with the participation of all the CSTO member states, we are conducting joint planning for the use of military contingents from six countries.”
