Northrop Grumman to Provide IAMD IBCS Development for the U.S. Army

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama, the USA, ( 1 September, Northrop Grumman Corporation announced that it has been awarded a new contract for an integrated air and missile defence (IAMD) battle command system (IBCS) by the US Army. The U.S. Army expects Northrop Grumman to improve IBCS’s performance, reliability and maintainability by modernizing and upgrading the system’s engagement operations centres and integrated fire control network relays. Furthermore, under the contract, the company will also elaborate and deliver IBCS software version 4.5, which incorporates integrated updates for the Patriot system as well as for emerging threats. The U.S. Army order includes also and the delivery of logistics, training and support for tests, involving a flight test scheduled for late 2019.

The IBCS has successfully completed three flight trials conducted by U.S. Army, to defeat live targets, by demonstrating command-and-control for sensors and weapons as well as two more tests conducted with Sidewinder and Longbow Hellfire missiles that validated missile integration within a few months.

Talking about the advantages that IBCS provides, the vice-president and general manager of Northrop Grumman Missile Defence and Protective Systems, Dan Verwiel said that the system’s capabilities to solve some of the most difficult defence challenges are due to its sensors and integrated weapons with maximized combat potential as well as its transformational capabilities. IBCS is able to integrate radars and weapons over a wide area and to maintain voice and data connectivity effectively; to deliver integrated air pictures and target information with complete accuracy as well as to be more successful and effective during multiple and complex engagements than the existing such systems.
