A Russian Delegation Attended the Tokyo Forum on Asia-Pacific Region Security Issues

MOSCOW, of the Russian Federation (BulgarianMilitary.com) – Yesterday (2nd October 2018) the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation that at the 22nd Asian Regional Forum on Security of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which was held in Tokyo, a delegation of the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation discussed security issues in the Asia-Pacific region (APR), learned BulgarianMilitary.com

The conference was attended by representatives of leading military universities of ASEAN countries.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a regional intergovernmental organization, which involves ten Southeast Asian countries – Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar and the Philippines. It promotes intergovernmental cooperation and contributes to economic, political, security, military, educational, and sociocultural integration among its members and other Asian states.

Hence, the discussed topics covered building of partnerships for coping with security challenges in the Asia-Pacific region, the role of military universities, colleges and institutes in training future military leaders, including a strategy for developing partnerships in modern realities.

The Deputy Head of the Academy for Scientific Research of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Sergey Chvarkov, headed the Russian military delegation. Their visit was arranged at the invitation of the Japanese side in accordance with the international action plan of the Ministry of Defence of Russia.

About the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation

The Academy of the General Staff is located in Moscow. It was founded in 1918 by Leonid Govorov and was the senior Soviet and now Russian general staff college. It conducts the education, preparation and enhancement of the qualification of higher and senior officers of the Armed Forces, the Defence Ministry and other ministries and authorities.
