Airbus Delivers the First A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport to Singapore

Yesterday, 3 Sept. 2018, Airbus announced that the company has delivered the first A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) to the Republic of Singapore for the needs of the Air Force and at the RSAF’s 50th anniversary parade on 1 September 2018, the aircraft made its first official public appearance, learned BulgarianMilitary.com

The Republic of Singapore expressed interest in the A330 MRTT in February 2012 for the purposes of replacing its four KC-135s and the aircraft was selected in February 2014 over the Boeing KC-46. The Republic of Singapore signed for a delivery of six aircraft starting in 2018.

The new-generation A330 MRTT is an aerial refuelling tanker aircraft based on the civilian Airbus A330. It improves the endurance of the fighter aircraft of the Air Force of the Republic of Singapore. It also ensures the service’s continued capability to provide air-to-air refuelling support and better cargo and passenger transport options. The maximum fuel capacity of the A330 MRTT is 111,000 kg without the use of additional fuel tanks, which leaves space for the carriage of 45,000 kg of additional cargo. Now, based on the above information, it can be concluded that the Air Force has at its disposal much improved equipment for international humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) and peace support operations, if needed.
