The Norwegian Armed Forces Will Acquire Safran’s Next Generation Thermal Imagers

The Norwegian Armed Forces (NAF) will acquire Safran’s next generation thermal imagers MOSKITO TI™ and JIM Compact™. This was revealed last Friday, 13th July 2018. The subsidiary of Safran Electronics & Defense – Safran Vectronix AG (Switzerland) – was selected by the Norwegian Defense Materiel Agency through an international competition for manufacturing and delivery of several hundreds of medium and long range multifunctional thermal imagers to the NAF, learned BulgarianMIlitary.com

The MOSKITO TI™ and JIM Compact™ thermal imagers are compact, lightweight, multifunction, innovative handheld devices that meet the medium and long range requirements of the Norwegian Armed Forces. These requirements involve day and night observation, artillery correction and fire support, target acquisition, forward observer and Joint Terminal Attack Controller.
MOSKITO TI™ weighs 1.3 kg. It is a handheld monocular system, which combines several high performance sensors and modules, including an uncooled thermal imager, Low Light TV channel, high grade direct view optics, a laser rangefinder, a digital magnetic compass and a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver.
JIM Compact™ weighs 2 kg and it is a compact, multifunction, binocular, state-of-the-art long range handheld device, which combines a cooled high resolution thermal imager, embedded “see spot” capability, advanced TV channel, Low Light TV channel, infrared laser pointer, a laser rangefinder, a digital magnetic compass and a GPS receiver.
