Last week, on 5th June, FLIR Systems, Inc. revealed its new Black Hornet® 3 nano-unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). That next-generation nano-unmanned vehicle is intended for global militaries, government agencies, and first responders and allows navigation in GPS-denied environments. The latter capability enables the user to be aware of the operational situation, detect threats and perform surveillance no matter where the mission is.

James Cannon, President and CEO of FLIR Systems, said “We are excited to bring this advanced Black Hornet 3 to our warfighters and first responders. With longer range and indoor flight capabilities, the latest generation Black Hornet provides full surveillance coverage continuity to the mission. The Black Hornet 3 is representative of FLIR’s new focus on providing full-solution technology, and we look forward to playing a role in helping modernize our military customers.”

With its 32 grams, which include two sensors, a controller and display, the Black Hornet 3 is smaller in size and weight than the previous versions, but features better parameters. The Black Hornet 3 may cover the distance of 2 km at speeds of over 21 km/h. The imaging processing is sharper and the next-generation UAV of FLIR Sytems offers greater image fidelity.

The latest Black Hornet is being demonstrated at EUROSATORY 2018 in Paris, France.
