On 31st May Rockwell Collins announced that it has been selected by the leading Canadian aerospace and defence company Cascade Aerospace to provide WXR-2100 MultiScan ThreatTrack™ weather radars with MFD-255 and MFD-268 multi-function displays for the Lockheed C-130 Hercules fleet of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF).
The advanced weather radar technology will boost the weather detection capabilities with minimal impact on existing avionics and assist the RCAF pilots in their search and rescue missions.
The Managing Director of Rockwell Collins, Canada, Lee Obst, explained, “The RCAF is getting the latest in weather threat detection, all while gaining weight and reliability improvements compared to legacy systems. As an off-the-shelf, proven solution, it will have a minimal impact on the existing avionics and is an ideal fit for C-130 operators.”
Thanks to the advanced radar technology of the WXR-2100, the environment will be automatically scanned and hazards will be analysed during C-130 missions. The situational awareness will be improved and thus turbulent weather will be more effectively avoided. The MFD-255 Multi-Function color, 5-by-5-inch display offers an extremely wide viewing angle, and the MFD-268 displays graphics and video on an XGA, 1024-by-768 resolution, delivering high performance with an avionics-grade, color active matrix liquid crystal display (AMLCD).
