On 7th May 2018, the American global aerospace, defence, security and advanced technologies company, Lockheed Martin, announced that the company has been awarded a U.S. $828 million not-to-exceed contract by the U.S. Army for Lot 13 production of GMLRS (Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems) rockets and associated equipment, reported Shephard Media.

The scope of the newly received contract involves production of GMLRS Alternative Warhead (AW) rockets, GMLRS Unitary rockets, Reduced-Range Practice Rockets (RRPRs), and provision of integrated logistics support for the U.S. Army. The latter will ensure achieving of the highest possible operational availability.

Some international customers will also receive GMLRS rounds under the contract.

GMLRS is a rocket designed for all weather conditions and developed for fast deployment that ensures precision strike beyond the reach of most conventional weapons. The GMLRS AW has been designed to service area targets without the effects of unexploded ordinance.

Thanks to the RRPR (Reduced-Range Practice Rockets), trainings with realistic, full-motored rockets with limited flight range could be performed.

In case of combat operations, each GMLRS rocket is to be packaged in a MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) launch pod and fired from the U.S. light multiple rocket launcher HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) or M270 MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) of Lockheed Martin.
