NATO’s collective defense in the Bulgarian National Security Strategy

NATO’s collective defense and new EU`s defense capabilities are just a part of th Bulgarian National Security Strategy, approved by the Bulgarian government. The strategy has not been published yet, and its vote in the Bulgarian Parliament is expected.

The document gives a different view of national security. Citizens’ security, public and economic aspects as well as specific state defense, foreign policy, intelligence, public order and protection of the law being of paramount importance.

For the first time in the national security strategy some new policies are included, such as cyber security, transport security, crisis management, archive protection and protection of cultural and historical heritage. The gradual increase of the defense budget to 2 per cent is set in the strategy.

The new national security strategy allows for investment in new military equipment, combat platforms and the modernization of armed forces, as well as the creation and selection of military personnel.
