Bulgaria will host the multinational military exercise „Saber Guardian – 2017“

The multinational exercise „Saber Guardian – 2017“ is planned to take place in the period 11 -20 July 2017 in Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania. This is a U.S Army Europe-led exercise and approximately 25 000 service members from 23 allied and partner nations will take part.

„Saber Guardian“ is a series of multinational exercises and haя been conducted annually since 2013 as part of U.S. European Command’s (USEUCOM) Joint Exercise Program. In 2017, „Saber Guardian“ will be the largest exercise to date. The aim is to enhance the interoperability of the participating nations and to demonstrate commitment and readiness for action in support of the security and stability in the Black Sea region.

The Bulgarian Armed Forces will contribute to „Saber Guardian 2017“ about 4000 service members from the Joint Forces Command, the Armed Forces Services and their subordinated structures: the Military Police Service, The Military Medical Academy, the Ministry of Defence and the Defence Staff Directorates and other dedicated national structures.

Under the multinational „Saber Guardian – 2017“ exercise, the following exercises will also take place in the territory of our country, „Black Swan – 2017“, a Special Operations Forces exercise, „Swift Response – 2017“, an airborne exercise, „Eagle Sentinel – 2017“, a tactical live fire exercise, „Peace Sentinel – 2017“, Bulgarian Land Forces Exercise, and „Shabla – 2017“, air defence artillery live fire exercise.
